Sri Lanka Railways (SLR), officially the Sri Lanka Railway Department, is the government-owned railway operator and primary transport provider in Sri Lanka. It operates under the Ministry of Transport and was established in 1858 as the Ceylon Government Railway. The department's mission is to provide safe, reliable, and punctual rail transport for both passenger and freight traffic.
