The key to creating a successful and powerful CV is to have all the necessary information in a proper structured form. Here, below is a list of tips to follow when creating a CV.

1. Having the Fundamentals right.

There is no right or wrong CV, or just one winning format but there are certain must-put information that you cannot miss out. These include:

  • Personal Information
  • Contact Information
  • Educational data/Qualifications/Achievements
  • Experiences
  • Relevant skills

2. Presentation is important

A winning CV is always carefully and clearly presented in a creative format to grab the employer’s attention. A CV’s hotspot is the upper-middle area of your first page. So it is important to include the most valuable information there.

Also, a CV should never be crumbled, it should be on a crisp white A4 sheet.

3. The Length

The maximum length of a CV is two A4 sheets. Keep your CV information short, simple and on point without waffling.  Anything beyond two pages would make it look like an essay in the pool of CVs received by the recruiter and the chances of it making the way to the bin are high.

The average time spent on a CV is just 8 seconds.

4.Tailor your CV according to the Job Role

There is no such thing as a generic CV. Give your CV a customized touch catering for the current job you are applying for. This makes it more personalized and shows your interest in joining the company. Hence your CV stands out from the rest and is more convincing.

5.Including the necessary data

Some points to remember when creating a CV.

  • Mention all the skills you have that could make you a more talented candidate and help you stand out from the rest. Avoid including irrelevant skills like dancing etc.
  • Talk about your Achievements.
  • Make the most from your Experiences. Tell a bit about your position, working period and the skills you developed there.
  • Use positive language.
  • Structure your data in a chronicle order.
  • Use bullet points instead of writing huge paragraphs.

6.Choose clear and formal fonts with the right size.

7. Make your CV attractive by having a theme. Don’t use graphics or clipart’s.

8.Don’t leave obvious empty spaces in-between and have consistent spacing through-out.

9.Avoid grammatical errors and re-check your CV with a spell-checker.

10. Keep your CV up to date.
