Role Purpose:
 
The overall purpose of this role is to support the execution of a communication strategy (internal and external) within the country with a primary focus on digital platforms. Led by the Country Head of Marketing and working with programme staff, the post holder will create, develop and manage content for websites, events, press releases, newsletters catering to a variety of internal and external audiences and build and maintain healthy relationships with external agencies and partners. These outputs will reinforce the British Council’s position as a cultural relations organisation with high quality products and services that positively change lives.
 
The role is attached to marketing which is a strategic function driving awareness, understanding and engagement with us across our diverse audiences. We lead the development of our brand and use our expertise to tell inspiring stories to enhance our global reputation, build lifelong relationships, engage our staff and prove the impact of what we do.
 
Challenges and Accountabilities:
 

  • Delivering a country communications plan, which aligns with the British Council’s global communications strategy, the regional communications strategy and plan including content and channel strategies, enabling country strategies and goals and supports country programmes and activities.
  • Managing the creation of campaigns which serve the communications needs of internal stakeholders and will often involve collaboration with communications specialists of partner organisations.
  • Supporting systems which reduce risk to the British Council’s reputation while ensuring communications campaigns are delivered on deadline and to maximum effect.
  • Ensuring data relating to the British Council communication and media networks is managed systematically and kept up to date.

 
Requirements:
 

  • Sri Lankan citizen or in possession of a valid work visa to work in Sri Lanka
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification such as Communications, Journalism, CIM and minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in a similar discipline or relevant part qualification with 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Considerable experience in creating communications campaigns for different audiences across different platforms with adequate knowledge in digital communications, working in a matrix situation with multiple stakeholders and deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience in managing social media campaigns and event management leadership
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills with proficiency in Sinhala and/or Tamil
