Head of Imports & logistics
We are seeking an experienced and result oriented individual to manage overall imports and logistical activities, while managing a team and ensuring that annual operational plans are implemented and achieved.
- Job Description
- Identify crucial requirements from individual divisions in accordance with annual business plan.
- Should have exceptional negotiating skills with foreign principals and capable of handling a wide portfolio of products.
- Customs house and wharf handling from arrival notice to unloading the consignment, negotiate with carriers, warehouse operators or distribution networks to determine tariffs which should be in the interests of the company at all times.
- Liaise with team members of other departments and proactively arrange shipping documentation (LC, TT, Import license, regulatory approvals, Shipping/Bank guarantees and Container deposits) in order to maintain zero demurrage.
- Responsible for leading the imports team and liaising with sales and finance departments to ensure effective planning and forecasting of import schedules, support sales, purchasing and material management.
- Analyze and identify ways to reduce cost of procurement through payment negotiations, alternate vendor development, volume negotiation, annual discounts etc.
- Maintain records for accounting purposes in accordance with company procedures, including the checking of all invoices and shipping manifests for conformity to tariff and customs regulations.
Requirements
- Degree from any recognized University in Transport, Logistics and Warehouse Management.
- 5-7 years professional experience in a similar capacity.
- Experience in SAP ERP System would be an added advantage.
